In a recent skinguru.com article, Dr Baumann said that one of the biggest skin care mistakes was having facials.

Yes, that's right -- you can strike facials from your skin-care budget and actually be doing your skin a favor! Studies show that as many as 80% of people break out after a facial. Aestheticians often don't know which products are right for the skin of each client, and may use ingredients that can worsen acne, or essential oils that tend to irritate sensitive skin. Even if you don't break out, there are really no long-term benefits to facials.

In my opinion Dr Baumann was right on the mark with that. I am yet to have a facial that has provided any positive results for my skin. Every single time I've had one, regardless of the brand or type of products used, my skin has looked blotchy almost immediately, I have broken out badly within a day or two and when I've finally managed to get my skin back under control it looks no better than before.

I also experience similar effects from microdermabrasion, whether carried out by a derm or aesthetician and consider it to be a mistake/waste of money too.

It's funny reading some of the 1400 or so comments on the blog at skinguru.com too as many people seem to agree that facials are a waste of money and the ones most vocal about them being great for skin mostly say that they are aestheticians!

I just wondered what other's experiences were?
