I'm not a political person and I generally am not interested in politics but I do believe that we should not take the right to vote for granted.
For example in the UK until about 1884 (around the time of the reformation acts) only landed men were allowed to vote. In 1918 laws were passed to allow all men over the age of 21 and women over the age of 30 to vote.
In Australia women were given the vote in 1926 and the traditional owners of the land (the aborigines) were not given the vote until 1926.
