Just need to vent....
one of my clients was discharged from hospital on Monday after being in for 2 weeks. She was discharged with enough medication to last her 5 days, her son contacted the medical centre on Tuesday and asked for her Dr to make up a script for collection. I called in to see her on Wednesday and she told me that the script needed to be collected. I rang the medical centre to see if it was ready and they told me they didn't know anything about it, so I asked if I could make an appointment for her to see the GP today (Thurs) so we could get the script. They told me they couldn't fit her in for a month! I explained that she is 96 (will turn 97 in August) and she needed the medication asap and again requested they get the Dr to fill it in for collection. We turned up there this morning to be told that they didn't understand my request so it hadn't been done and she would need to see a Dr to get it filled out. We agreed to see someone else. After 1.5 hours waiting I went to the counter and asked when we would be seen, they told me another 45 mins at least! I must admit I got a little cranky. I explained that this was an elderly lady who just needed her medication and also needed something to eat and to rest but they wouldn't budge and let her be seen sooner. I also had a bit of a go at them for not advising us of the waiting time when we first walked in. I did get them to call another medical centre to see what their wait time was. We ended up going there and she was seen within a minute of arriving and given the script. I'm just cross that her GP couldn't/woudn't see her and the surgery where all her records are wouldn't try to make life a bit easier for someone in their twilight years. It bothers me how the elderly are often treated.
