Okay, here's the deal. There's quite a few of us who make our own products and quite a lot more I think who are contemplating it. I'm certainly becoming more interested in it as I realise just how dissatisfied I am with the commercial products that are available (both in performance and cost). I also think it's nice to know exactly what you're putting on your skin. I'm not saying I'm against the industry in general, just that I think sometimes there might be a "better way".

So, I figured how about we have a single thread which can contain recipes for homemade skin care products!

On a site like this it's even more useful than say somewhere like MUA because we mostly know what each other's skin types are and in a much more precise way that the general public does.

I'm going to get the ball rolling here...

Many thousands of years ago in a far away land I used to use an exfoliating product produced by The Body Shop called Japanese Buffing Beads (I think that was the name). It was Adzuki/Aduki/Azuki (they can be known by any of those names depending on where you are) which were ground into a fine powder which you mixed with either water or your cleanser. I recall they were actually quite good and extremely soft and gentle.

Today I was at a department store browsing the cosmetics hall (as one does) and noticed Bobbi Brown selling a product called Buffing Grains for Face. Guess what.... the exact same product that TBS used to sell! The difference being BB were charging a whopping £25 for 28g (just under an ounce).

So on my way home I stopped at the health food store and picked up a packet of Aduki beans, popped them into a clean coffee grinder when I got home and whizzed them until they turned into a fine powder.

Not being able to wait to try them I mixed about a teaspoon full of them with a little Cetaphil cleanser and gave myself a little scrub.

I had forgotten how much I LOVED these before TBS discontinued them! They are incredibly soft and gentle but seem to do a really good job. They also have a very slight astringent effect and my pores looked considerably tighter when I was done.

Total cost for 28g - about 8 pence (a LOT cheaper than BB's £25!!!)
Josh / 41 / male / DSPW-OSPW / Acne and clog prone / sensitive. Switching up my routine as I'm living in a new country (Malta) and the change in climate, water and diet is causing my skin to play up.

Using: La Roche-Posay Lipikar Syndet (AM/PM), distilled witch hazel (AM/PM), Clarins UV Plus HP SPF 40 (AM), Retin-A Gel 0.01% (PM).
