I have some suspicious looking moles that my primary care Dr. wanted me to have checked out, so I made a derm appt. today (won't get in until October). While I was there, I thought I would ask about prescription products such as Tazorac (I'm an ORPW). How do I broach the subject without making it seem like I already know what I want, self-diagnosing, etc. Obviously I have the list of products that Dr. Baumann recommends, and I'm not sure that the dermatologist is 'cosmetic' friendly.

I've been seeing my derm for years and we have a good relationship, so I just brought in my book with her and asked about specific medications. I don't think your doc should be offended or put off in any way. In any case, he/she *shouldn't*. I would just say you read the book and are interested in finding out if some of the things you are interested in would be appropriate treatments for x-y-z issues.

And if the doc is not cosmetic friendly, maybe they can recommend someone who is!
