I'd been on the Baumann routine for little over 2 months, and my skin was clearing up nicely (mostly redness problems, probably rosacea). But then I joined a gym three weeks ago and started working out. I expected flushing, and was resigned to looking like a lobster for a few hours until it subsided. But I did not expect bumps all over, nor that the redness wouldn't completely subside, nor the bumps. I'm working out Mon-Thurs, and not Fr-Sun. Over the weekend, my skin will settle down and be back to "normal". But I haven't seen any overall improvement in "normal" over the last three weeks.

Does anyone know of anything I can do to minimize this effect, speed the return to "normal", and hopefully get back on track for improving?

My daly routine is all aimed at the redness reduction. Eucerin Redness Relief cleanser, Eucerin's SPF moisturizer for sensitive skin (don't recall the exact name), Eurcerin's Redness Relief Daily Perfecting Lotion, and the Eucerine Redness Relief night cream. PTR sulfur mask every 3 days (it helps noticeably, but my skin won't tolerate it more frequently than that)

Any suggestions or insights would be most welcome! Thanks.

Sharz, I'm wondering if you're working out with makeup on. When I was going to the gym regularly about a year ago, my face was breaking out worse than usual and I was advised to remove my makeup before working out because that can apparently be a problem for lots of people. I didn't do it because (1) I didn't want to be seen at the gym or anywhere else without makeup and (2) I had to rush to get to the gym, work out, and "clean up" afterwards, all during my lunch hour. But I think it did cause more breakouts.

Maybe not wear makeup at all when you workout... then wash your face immediately following your workout might help.

I can't wear makeup or sunscreen for that matter when I work out due to irritation and increased chance of breakouts.

If you can, try to wash your face before working out, if you're not already. I also like to rinse off my face as quickly as I can afterward since I tend to sweat a lot. I find having a towel on hand that is dampened/slightly wet to put on my face while I'm working out is very soothing and helps to cool some of the flushing.

Hope that helps a bit. I know it can be such pain to do this. I actually have been trying to work out first thing in the am before I use sunscreen, makeup etc. just to avoid the extra hassle of washing everything off then having to reapply afterwards. Of course this isn't always feasible but at least my work out is done for the day!

Thanks, ladies, good call. I have been working out with makeup on. The gym is one my company opened in the building for its employees. The thought of being seen without makeup, not just by "the public", but by my co-workers ... ~shudder~

But I'll give it a try.
