TOPIC: Body Product Bias

Body Product Bias 11 months, 1 week ago #5436

When I think of typical leave-on body products, I mainly think of moisturizing “lotion”, “cream”, “oil”, “alpha hydroxy acid”, and “sunscreen/sunblock”. Now, I considered these as pretty basic skin care products. Yet, when I think of treatment/therapeutic/corrective/preventative products, they are most likely advertised for facial skin, which inevitablly means they are expensive and small in amount. Why is that?

Three examples are prescription retinoids (Retin-A, tazorac, Differin, etc), high concentration retinol (SkinCeutical, Replenix, Skin Medica, etc), and high concentration of vitamin C (SkinCeuticals, Skin Medica, Dermalogica, etc). These products are at most in amounts less than 2 oz worth of product. If you have problematic skin that is prominent on your body area, then it would be so expensive to treat it. So my question really is, why isn’t there a 10 oz size of SkinCeutical CE Ferulic acid serum for the body? Why isn’t there a 16 oz body lotion of 0.5% retinol?

I have done searches on www.skincarerx.com, www.skinstore.com, www.dermstore.com, and www.ulta.com. With relevant results for "body treatment product" showing me either body moisturizers or an alpha hydroxy acid products. The skin on the body cannot be youthful alone with just alpha hydroxyl acids. The scarcity of large-size salicylic acid products are problematic for oily/combination skin types. These people have to rely on “facial” products to treat their larger skin area on their body. Just imagine how many Neutrogena Ance-Stress Control 3-in-1 Hydrating Acne Treatment (2oz) you have to buy to maintain clear skin. Not to mention a lot of benzoyl peroxide products at the drugstores are at most 1 oz each. What if you have prominent back acne? Imagine the budget you have to upkeep! Okay, acne.org sells a bulk version, but for those who prefers drugstores, you are pretty much out of luck or at least in the USA.
