Hi everyone!

I scored borderline O/D. My derm told me the other day I am on the dry side. I have been following the OSNW routine. My forehead is shiny and reflects light, and I have visible pores on each side of my nose, however the rest of my skin is really getting drier. My eyelids are becoming dry and flaky and they burn and itch, as the rest of my face does. My lines are becoming more noticeable, especially around my eyes, and my skin just looks dull and tight, even on my foerhead.

Am I using the wrong products? I use Purpose gentle cleansing wash and immediately after washing my skin feels a little tight and is red. Should I be following the DSNW routine? I would never have thought I could be dry because I have acne. I always assumed acne=oily! I am hesitant to use products for dry skin because I don't want to breakout even more! Help!

I am far from an expert, but it sounds like you are either reacting to something else you are using or you really are dry. I think you can be dry and acne prone...what a quandry!!! Good luck--maybe someone esle out here has better insight than I do.

Moisturizers don't cause acne, and it sounds like you really need a moisturizer! Just don't use it on your oily areas. Take the test in the book again, and wait the two hours or whatever is required in the first couple of questions in the O/D section. Regardless, though, it sounds like you definitely need a good moisturizer for your dry flaky areas.

I don't know if I have advice, but I can sympathize.  I scored 30 on the oily side, but I consider myself more on the O/D cusp.  Similar to you although oily on my forehead and my outer cheeks (by my jaw line and ears), I have a problem with dry skin and roseaca on my cheeks and around my eyes.  I was planning on leaning toward more of the DSNW products come winter.

I have found using the products Dr. B indicates for redness also helps with the oiliness.  I also just apply products for acne on the oily areas.  I like the Eucerin redness cleanser and remember having problems with Purpose years ago.

Let us know if you find the problem and best of luck.

Thanks! I will probablly switch my cleanser since I do feel tight after washing. I got a prescription for Retin A cream and have not used it yet because I don't want to get anymore drier and irritated than I already am! I do have an appointment next week with a derm. The first appointment was with an MD so not too sure how reliable his advice was! (I have Kaiser and they make you see an MD before you can see a dermatologist. Managed health care )
