I tried a new Dermatologist today. Took me over 3 months to get an appointment. He was definately knowledgeable and nice enough. He did a body scan and pointed out a few suspicious moles for biopsy, etc. But, when it came to small little cosmetic things on my face, he was less than interested. Everything I showed him on my face got the same "that's nothing" response from the Dr. He even told me that I should not look so close in the mirror. The only good thing was that he gave me a prescription for Tazorac Cream 0.05. So, I will see if that helps.

Again, it is not like he wasn't a nice guy. But, he had ZERO interest in anything cosmetic.

Is it me or him? I have no idea, anymore...LOL

Thanks for letting me rant.

I think some (maybe more old-school) derms are more interested in, or perhaps used to, just doing cancer screenings and looking at rashes and such. I know that when I was derm-shopping 6 years ago when I was pregnant and one HUGE zit, I got the brush-off from quite a few who attirbuted it to hormones, handed me a prescription for oral erythromycin and sent me on my way. I finally found my curren doc who talked to me about different things I could and could not use, and started doing glycolic peels and injecting some of my largest zits with corisone to shrink them.
I know that lately I have seen ads in local publications for derm practices which specialize in laser hair removal, botox, etc, which I would assume would be geared more towards the cosmetic side of things. I don't know, is there a different category of doctors who are "cosmetic dermatologists"?? It is frustrating, especially after you did everything right--pointed out your concerns, and especially after waiting 3 months for an appt!
Where do you live? Maybe someone on this board can recommend someone?

Kevin,

I think that Derms would probably say we're too obsessed about our looks, and the general public would say derms don't get it.
Honestly I think most derms DON'T get it, probably because they've seen much worse.
But to me the bottom line is....it's OUR FACES! We can be obsessed if we want to be. Besides WE are the customer. WE pay the bill.

This is a sore spot for me. I live in LA. The capital of obsessed. And the 2 dermatologists I've been to were pretty much the same as yours.
I emailed Dr. B and she recommended someone to me. (I was so desperate I actually asked Dr. B if she would see me if I flew over to Florida!!) So now I'm saving my money up for my appt. in November.

I say rant away!!! ;D
