My dearest Husband bought me a beautiful pair of diamond earrings for my B-Day. (July 3rd) I have been wearing them every day since! My ears are now swallon, red, and painful. I feel so bad I hope I don't have to give them up :'(

Has anyone had experience with this? I know the book mentions allergic reactions to Nickel, but 14kt white gold? ???

I personally haven't had this problem. But my best friend did, with her wedding ring (14kt white gold). She had worn it for years and then all of a sudden developed an allergic reaction. She had to upgrade to platinum. (which she didn't mind doing)
Her doctor said some people do that, and sometimes it's a hormonal thing.
(meaning maybe it will pass?)

I get rashes from white gold necklaces after I've worn them for a while, especially if I have sweated. I've never had a problem with earrings, except for anything that's not gold.

Believe it or not, Flower, I had a pair of earrings that caused the same problem several years ago, and apparently there was something on the earring posts that caused my ears to essentially become infected -- after I cleaned the posts with a q-tip and some alcohol (and allowed my ears to heal) I didn't have the problem anymore. Prior to that, I'd never really thought about cleaning the posts with alcohol before wearing them for the first time.

Thanks Gail, I did clean my ears with alcohol and a Qtip but was afraid to clean the posts because I don't want to ruin them. I will try to clean them. I took them out and need to let my ears heal. Hopefully I can wear them!
