Hi All,

I have been using the Ciba Sunscreen Calculator, and I was quite dismayed to find that my Neutrogena Sport Face 70+ only has a PPD of 7.1 and a calculated SPF of 20.4. This got me checking other otc sunscreens that I can easily and inexpensively buy in the US. This is what I found...

Coppertone Sport Face SPF 50 had a calculated SPF of 22.7 with a PPD of 7.6
Neutrogena Age Shield Face SPF 90+ had a SPF of 14.1 with a PPD of 6.1
Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch SPF 100+ had a SPF of 30.9 with a PPD of 9

Questions are... Buy just going down to the local drug store, these sunscreens seem to be the best option for easily available and cheap.
1. Do you think the PPD's are good enough to prevent further pigmentation?
2. In your opinions, what is an appropriate PPD factor for everyday incidental use compared to an a day spent outside all day?
3. Additionally, what are your opinions on the everyday use of chemical sunscreen filters if they do not cause you any skin trouble?
4. Is there a reason to worry about endocrine issues and chemical sunscreens? All physical sunscreens only seem to average an 8 when it comes to the PPD factor.

For further info, I looked at skinstore.com to calculate the effectiveness of Skincentuals Active UV Defense SPF 15, and this sunscreen had a calculated SPF of 20.9 and a PPD of 12.9. However, this sunscreen also costs 30.00 bucks for 3.4 oz. This begs the question, for me, because I then might as well just order expensive Euro sunscreen online if the protection is really that much better.

What do you all think? Thanks for reading my rant.

Smiles, Mee
