TOPIC: Dr B on Retinaldehyde

Dr B on Retinaldehyde 3 years, 2 months ago #4289

I was just catching-up on Dr B's in the Miami Herald and noticed the below response...

She thinks that retinaldehyde is the least effective. This is what is in Avene products like Ystheal and Eluage. I know that a number of us have been using Avene specially because of the retinaldehyde thinking it was the best over the counter retinol to use (or something to that affect!). ???

Q: Hi I have read your book and just wanted to know what the difference is between a retinoid and retinaldehyde? Which one is most effective? Can these two products be used together? Thanks

A: Retinoid is a family of compounds that includes retinol, tretinion, retinaldehyde, adapalene and tazarotene. Of these, I feel retinaldehyde is the least effective. I recommend using retinol first and once you tolerate it move to tretinion (Retin A, Renova, Atralin, Ziana)
