Hi, hoping for some opinions/information on this--
Before reading Dr. B's book I would have described myself as having a strong, oily skin, and I was surprised I tested out as an S. With the exception of a few rare instances, I'm not prone to redness, stinging, or irritation, and I have no food or other allergies. I just break out--breakouts are generally based on my cycle, with flares mid-cycle and during PMS (when I was on BCP I broke out all the time--I had my hormones checked out exhaustively during infertility treatment and they're entirely normal). My acne is not horrible, but it's never been completely under control, and I've tried every prescription option short of Accutane. And sheesh, I'm 42!
I had always understood that acne resulted from the oil/dead skin/bacteria cycle, but in the S/R discussion Dr. B introduces the concept of inflammation. (Seems like inflammation is now being linked from everything from aging to heart disease.) I wish the book would have explained more about this concept as it relates to acne, because I don't really "feel" inflamed . . . just zitty, and I was surpised that I showed up as an "S" when my skin is not "irritated" in the usual sense.
Can anyone comment or point me in the direction of a discussion? Thanks!
