I have them, but can't find a remedy.  Several dermatologists have labeled it "keratosis pilaris," but none of the prescribed treatments has made the slightest improvement.  This condition disappears in the winter, but once the temperatures get into the 70's+, the bumps containing a thick waxy substance appear along with red pores (it looks like a rash with the pores being red but not inflammed).  In the last few weeks, it's started again and I just hate it.  Long sleeves conceal the problem, but isn't much fun.  I would appreciate any input.  This started when I was about 27 years old (17 years ago).  Thanks!

Hi - I seem to have this too (I just heard of KP a few days ago so it was interesting to find a name for it), but only mildly. The little bumps aren't that aggravating for me (only noticeable to touch), so I'm not sure this will help you, but I have found that the Healing Garden Organics Wild Honey Body Scrub works great - makes my skin really smooth and velvety (completely gets rid of the bumps on my upper arms). But, I get red dots (without bumps) on my legs sometimes, drives me crazy, and the only thing I have found to help that so far is a Dr. Brandt lotion I received as a gift - it is called Balanced Body Moisturizer. It contains lactic acid and urea, and I've read that both of those are supposed to help with KP.

HTH, and I hope you find something that works!

My reply may fall into the category of "old wive's tales," I don't know...but for what it's worth, I had that problem for years as a teenager on the back of my upper arms and on my legs (above the knees) and then, sometime around age 20, they just went away and haven't come back. At one point, someone in a health food store told me that sometimes people who consumed lots of dairy products (which I did as a teenager) would develop them. I've always assumed mine were either due to the high dairy consumption (as I have a few relatively minor food allergies) or that maybe it was because I was sensitive to soaps and/or lotions I was using at the time.

Thanks to  you both for your input.  I grew up on a dairy farm and drank mostly raw milk.  It may have been about the time I started drinking "regular" milk that the bumps/red dots first appeared.  My symptoms differ from keratosis pilaris in that keratosis pilaris is worse in the winter.  Mine is just the opposite--worse in summer.

I was planning to do a month-long detox program my nurse practitioner recommended and dairy is not on the list, so it'll be interesting to see what impact it may have on my skin.

In the meantime, I will also check out the Healing Garden and Dr. Brandt products.  Thank you so much for the suggestions!

Have any of you tried KP duty by Dermadoctor? It is supposed to target this condition and I am curious as to whether it actually works.
