In the morning, when I use a sunscreen and a moisturizer and a serum, what order should they go? I though serum, then moisturizer, then SPF, but something I just read in a magazine confused me.
Will the products with active ingredients (like the serum) conflict with the sunscreen and make it not as effective?
Also should I spray the facial water, as in the book, if using sunscreen?

I feel like I'm overthinking a lot of this but it's tough to figure out multiple layers of products and what will interact in a good way and not cancel the others out, etc.

Leslie,

Technically you go from lightest to heaviest. Are you sure you need a serum and moisturizer both? Also, does your SPF not act as a moisturizer, too?

For my type the a.m. recommendation is serum, spray with water, eye cream, moisturizer with spf. In the summer when I'm outdoors more I use a higher spf sunscreen (I'm using the Roche-Posay Anthelios spf 50).

So I was assuming the sunscreen would be in addition to moisturizer, but maybe it functions as a moisturizer so I don't need both. If that's true, would you still do the serum and if so put that first? Or does the sunscreen need to get to your skin without other products in-between that would break down its active ingredient?

Leslie,

The sunscreen will work regardless of the order you put it on. For me, I've used sunscreens that I felt needed a moisturizer first (to make the sunscreen go on easily). I've also used sunscreens that had enough moisture that I didn't need to use anything else.
