Hi all,
I had posted this under another thread (thanks Josh and Kevin for responding!), but thought I re-post here to get further reactions from skin types across the board. Are cleansing oils working for you? What have been your experiences (good and bad) with different kinds of oils or oil cleansing products?
Thanks!

I've found this user list (take with a grain of salt) of various oils at

In regards to oil cleansing, I'm confused as ever as to whether it is beneficial for those oily types with acne. It appears to be good for dry types with acne, since many here really like EVOO, DHC, etc. However, I have not been able to consistently use oil cleansing. I've tried EVOO and it works great when my skin is stinging and dry for up to 3 days. However, it leaves a pretty good residue and if I keep using it, I will breakout. DHC Deep Cleansing oil also worked good and had more of a clean rinse feel due to the fractionated coconut oil, but used more than 5 days would cause break outs. I didn't try DHC as a precleanse followed by my regular cleanser, so perhaps that is where I errored. Dermalogica PreCleanse felt and functions similar to DHC. I followed up with my normal cleanser, Neutrogena Oil Free Acne scrub, and it truely eliminated 97% of the blackheads in about 3-4 days. Very awesome!!! However, the PreCleanse made my face extremely dry (very surprising) and broke me out towards the end. In this case, the breakouts were not blackheads, but debris filled pimples, which at this point I only experience when I'm reacting to a product.
My question is are oil based cleansers really just for dry or dry/acne prone skin?
I remember Dr. B indicating overdryness can cause acne in dry types, so balancing the lipid layer helps clear up acne.
I forgot to mention the reason I'm looking at oil cleansing is to finally erradicate the little blackheads that remain, since many have claimed it declogs pores, and help balance the skin barrier during winter months.
Thanks all!
