Ok, I have a question. I've taken the test several times and I'm pretty sure that I'm an OSPW. Although I feel like the other OS chapters all have good information for my skin (mild rosacea). (moreso than the OSPW chapter)
So here's my question. If the only difference between OSPW and OSNW is the pigmentation, then shouldn't the list of ingredients to avoid be pretty much the same?? ???
Even the OSPW and OSPT chapters...if the only difference is being a little more wrinkly than someone else why aren't the ingredients to avoid the same across the board?
I just can't see how having a little more pigment or being a little more wrinkle prone would cause the list to be different. I would actually think the list would be the same for ALL the OS chapters.
I feel like to be safe I should avoid ALL the ingredients from ALL the OS chapters.

Am I being paranoid? :o

Hi Sondra,

I'm an OSNW, but read the OSPW chapter to since if I were to flip to another type, that would be my closest cousin since I can freckle. I was also interested in some of the differences that I wouldn't have expected to see.

On the plus side, I figured that I could maybe use sometihng from the OSPW group if I wanted to play around - with the exception of the the Buf-Puf since I know that would irritate me. To me, it looks as if some of their stuff is "stronger" than mine, but I guess it makes sense when it comes to pigmentation issues.

I've enjoyed reading chapters that were opposite of mine just to see how much routines can differ.

Hi Sondra, I kind of feel the same way. I have actually been reading through the entire book and checking out all the ingredients to avoid, and why... I started doing this after I used a foaming cleanser (for OS) and had a negative reaction to it, and then discovered in another section (DS) that foaming cleansers shouldn't be used if (I think this was it) you have a damaged skin barrier - I believe I am truly an OS but have some DS issues. There is a lot of information in the book, and I have found it a little difficult to remember it all Anyway, I'm sure there are specific reasons for the varying lists, but I am - I guess - being a little paranoid too....

<She has listed methoxycinnamate as a no no mine has octinoxate which upon researching is the same thing! Further looking at ingredients for the ones she recommended has revealed octinoxate at the highest levels of 7.5% in them. Now I am even more confused>

Some place in the book Dr. Baumann mentions that for people who are sensitive to sunscreens the ingredients she mentions are usually the culprits. This doesn't mean that everyone is sensitive to these sunscreens. I have sensitive skin and am not sensitive to these ingredients.

Ditto what Nicknack said. While I am sensitive to a fair amount of stuff, I can use sunscreens fairly well. I think few of us would be allergic to the whole no-no list. At least I hope not!
