TOPIC: Rash from Sunscreen - HELP, What Should I do?

Rash from Sunscreen - HELP, What Should I do? 6 years ago #209

I am a OSPW and I am allergic to all (I think) chemical sunscreens. I am careful to only use those with physical active ingrediants such as titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. However, it is easiest to put a regular spray-on sunscreen on my unallergic 2 year old. Regular sunscreen also stays on better than my own. I may have to stop this practice however, since some of her sunscreen rubs off on the side of my face, neck and chest. I now have a rash that consists of small reddish blister type spots that are a bit itchy. WHAT SHOULD I PUT ON IT OR DO TO MAKE IT GO AWAY FASTER? Any suggestions? Also should I continue my non-perscription regime with Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Anti-Blemish with salicylic acid and alpha hydroxy, Skin Effects Advanced Brightening Complex, DHC White Sunscreen SPF 25, and at night RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream. HELP PLEASE!

personally,I wouldn't use anything til the blisters go away, except for a mild cleanser, like Cetaphil..maybe some cortisone cream or calamine lotion for the blisters..I'd put in a call to my derm or GP and let them know what's occuring,as they might have a different treatment plan..you sound miserable tho, hope it clears quickly!

Be sure to stay out of the sun while you're healing. You don't want your blisters to turn into dark spots. I have super-sensitive skin in the winter and find that even Cetaphil burns. I've been using Neutrogena Extra Gentle Cleanser with very good results. It doesn't foam, and cleans my skin well. I haven't compared with with Dr. B's list. You might find this less irritating while you're healing. Also, you may want to consider switching to a mineral make up. Jane Iredale was created for patient's who were recovering from chemical peels. It is also SPF 17. Skin-etc.com sells sample sizes for a reasonable price. Dr. B sells it on the site also.

Thanks so much. After about a week, my skin returned to normal for me. I stopped my OSPW non-perscription regimen, stayed out of the sun, and I used the Eucerin Redness Relief Cleanser and Night Cream The Eucerin helped to relieve the symptoms. From now on my daughter will only get to use my special sunscreen to avoid this problem in the future!
