Hi everyone,

I thought I'd ask the dry, sensitive types out there if they had suggestions for body cleansers and lotions for children.

I'm an ORNW, but my 23 month old daughter has dry, sensitive skin.  Unfortunately, we're having a hard time figuring out what upsets her sensitive skin.

Currently, she has what her pediatrician calls contact dermititis rash on her arm and part of her chest.  We don't know what caused it.  He told me to put hydrocortizone lotion on it twice a day and to switch back to using Dreft or another dye/fragrance free detergent.

She has facial redness after eating citrus or other acidic foods.  Finally found that Cetaphyl lotion helps clear this up and I don't give her oranges anymore!

Her soaps haven't seemed to bother her in the past.  I've used Johnson & Johnson, Baby Magic, and Huggies brands.

So, along with switching detergents, I was thinking of starting to use the Cetaphyl cleanser for bath times and using the Cetaphyl lotion for dryness.  My mom tells me that's what was recommended for my younger sister who has dry (but not sensitive) skin when she was little.  Of course, that was 25 years ago and I would like to know if there's something else I should be using.

Any suggestions from Dry, sensitives or parents of dry, sensitives?

Thanks!

hi Jen,
I have used cetaphil on the body, this is a good idea, very gentle. Also in Canada they sell Baby Dove, a hair and bodywash. I use this on my son (hair and body) and myself (body)...I like it, and it was more gentle than other baby products.

You might want to try Vanicream at psico.com... It is a very simple line without common irritants, no fragrance, no formaldehyde, etc. And, the prices are great.

Good luck,
-Kevin

My son has very sensitive skin. He is 2 1/2 and had terrible eczema last summer. We use J&J moisturizing body wash (in a cream colored bottle w/green lettering and cap) to wash his hair and body. Once out of the bath we jsut pat him dry and slather him in Cetaphil while he's still slightly damp and put his p.j.s on. I've also used Eucerin on him. The dr gave us a rx hydrocortisone cream to use on any eczema spots. Now, I'm trying to find a good sunscreen for his very sensitive little face. He cries every time I try to put anything on him!

My son, who is 2 now, had severe eczema as a baby and I have tried everything. He even reacted to the lanolin in Eucerin. The VERY BEST lotion I found was Aveeno Baby moisturizing cream (Cream with a navy top). I also use the wash and for him it is even less drying than Cetaphil which he used for about a year. His dermatologist gave us steroids and Elidel, which really helped, but this lotion made a huge difference too!
