Hi - I am pretty much in between OSPW and DSPW, and have been treating mainly as DSPW but with products recommended for both O and D types. I don't have much redness - just a slight underlying pinkness on my cheeks and nose, but I do have this persistent splotch of red right between my eyebrows, and I would really like to address it. Does anyone have any ideas what this might be caused by, and how I might treat it? I get really shiny right there, especially with sunscreens, and it just gets more red if I use a toner (I'm not using a toner anymore, btw, just saying). It is my least favorite part of my skin and following the regimen has not seemed to make it even budge.

TIA for any ideas or advice!

p.s. I hope it's okay to put this in General issues - I'm just not sure if it's due to dryness or oiliness....

Ooo, that's a toughie. And, definitely a question for Dr. B or another dermo, I think. Curious, though, when did you first notice the red splotch? Was it after using a new product or after a big change in your life (i.e. pregnancy)? Wondering if it could be eczema? Hmmm, sorry I wasn't any help.

my first thought was try some cortisone cream..on occasion,I've had red itchy spots and that cleared it right up..especially my neck..it gets red&itchy a lot...if that doesn't work, then I'd see a derm for sure or if you've had it awhile, definitely go see a derm soon.

Hi Lydia and Lynn, thanks for your responses I have had this on and off for a while - I think I first noticed it around the time my daughter was born (fifteen years ago...). It was around the same time I moved from CT to VT though, from suburbs to country, from city water to well, so who knows, there could be other factors involved. Sometimes I notice that it is gone, and I can't figure out what helped! What strength cortisone is good for the face? I'm thinking as low as I can get, right?

Thanks again!

after reading about cortisone,it appears in the long run, it actually harms the skin by thinning it out..I still reccommend seeing a derm for this..I'd feel really bad telling you to use cortisone cream and then possibly making your condition worse..I have used it on occasion, and had no issues, but ,it might not be right for you..refer to the chapters that discuss eczema(can be found in the index) and read what Dr. B recommends,ok?
