Please forgive my ignorance on this, but I have a question regarding the first visit to the dermatologist to request a prescription for retinoids. Since I will be asking about skin care and trying to get a prescription should I forgo makeup so the doctor can get a good look at my skin in its natural state? Does it make a difference? Just curious. I want to make the most of my consultation. THANK YOU.

I would think so. I would go with no make-up; maybe just sunscreen.

Dana - I go without makeup. It's really good for them to get a look at any hyperpigmentation your makeup may cover. I've been seeing my derm for almost a year now and my skin is oodles better and I'd love him to see how nice my skin looks with makeup, but I resist. (What a shot to our vanity, huh?)

Thank you Fidget and Kylie. I will go without makeup. It is going to be difficult but I will do it. I just feel lost if I do not have on some makeup when I go out in public. However, some sacrifices have to be made. I plan to continue with the nonprescription regimen until I use all of the products and then I am going to schedule an appointment with a dermatologist for a mole check and skin care issues.

agree about no makeup wearing for your visit..just throw some in your bag, then apply it in the bathorom before you leave the office..I think it's important for your derm to see your skin sans makeup..if you really need something, possibly concealer around the eyes and mascara,gloss..
