Just a general curiosity question.

While not a natural redhead (I'm a blonde by birth) My father and daughter are natural redheads, which leads me to assume that I carry the MC1R (redhead gene) even though I have to pay for my red hair

I had wondered of this gene plays a role in skin sensitivity. That would make sense to me as to why I'm so sensitive to so much stuff.

I'd love to hear input from all of you!

What an interesting question, Paula! I'm interested to see the replies to this, as I'm also a blonde by birth and my father is a redhead, too (as was his mother).

Both my parents were blonde; I was blonde till I was sixteen. My mother
and her two sisters (one blonde, one not) had extremely sensitive skin.
My father did too.
Neither of my parents could tan--I am not capable of tanning. Both my
parents had melanoma (they were fine). I saw the chief of dermatology at
John's Hopkins for a consult for a different problem and mentioned this.
He thought I was Irish, but I told him I was Jewish and he said in my case,
my inability to tan was genetic and the result of my parents genetic makeup. At the time, Irish and Jewish people had little intermarriage.
