TOPIC: Dr. Baumann, what are your thoughts on short contact therapy?

I've read about this now on a few different sites. The Acne Cure book by Terry Dubrow seems to be based on this concept. It involves using active ingredients like BHA, AHA, BP and putting them on the skin one at a time, for just a few minutes and then rinsing them off. Supposedly you get some benefits of the actives without extra irritation.

Some people on another site have been doing this with retinoids too. Leaving them on for a few minutes, then rinsing off. They are reporting benefits, but with less irritation.

Could this be an effective way for the "S" types to fight acne, with less irritation? I wondered what your thoughts and experiences are with this.

I ask too, since I'm a DSNW with acne (bordering on O and R in the summer) . Luckily I I am tolerating retinoids very, very well, but for someone who can't I wonder if this is a good option?

I think you'd be wasting your money to rinse retinoids off. Also, I really believe that when you use RetinA or Renova (tretinoin) you get less irritation than with regular retinol. I have sensitive skin and actually only use a pea sized amount (which is what is recommended), and I had almost no flaking. I've used it for 9-10 months now. It makes such an amazing difference I wish I'd started 10 years ago!

I agree with Nick Nack- short contact is a waste of money. Just use less to begin with if its too strong or dilute with a serum or moistruizer. why wash it off?
