I wanted to see if anyone else has used TAZORAC and if Dr. Baumann could offer some guidance as well. I started using a DRNW regimen using products listed in the book under my skin type. I use a glycolic cleanser, serum, facial water, eye cream, and a day lotion with SPF 15 or higher if i'm not out in the sun for the day. If I know I will be I have something stronger since I am fair. At night I use the same cleanser then I use Philosophy Help Me with a night lotion recommended for my skin type. I am using a non prescription retinoid lotion because I have large pores on my chin and nose and I have slight break outs and blackheads reviews for the stuff persuaded me to try it since it helped other people with similar skin problems. I can say it has helped with congestion of my pores and it seems to shrink breakouts a lot faster then anything I have ever tried without peeling and drying etc. My skin being dry doesn't seem to exfoliate very well so my pores clog very easily.

Today I went to my dermatologist and I mentioned to him that I was using the Philosophy Help Me he looked at my chin and nose and then offered to give me a bunch of samples of Tazorac he said it would help me my condition even more. I am only 28 so I don’t really need it for wrinkles but does anyone have any experience with it and how it helped with the clarity of their skin? Should I even use something this strong now at this time? Or should I try maybe the Afirm brand instead? If I do use Tazorac how should I go about using it? My glycolic cleanser is MD Forte 2 if that helps with giving me advice. Should I use my serum at night now if I am going to use Tazorac?

My dry skin has improved so much too since taking Dr Baumann's advice and using the products listed for DRNW's it kind of has a glow now and no more itchy tight clogged look. But a little more clarity would be nice. Is a prescription regimen my savior?

I too have dry skin that's prone to clogging. I have been on Retin-A for almost three months and I'm really liking the way my skin looks. It definitely has helped significantly with the clogged pores. And since it is helpful with wrinkle prevention too, I am glad to be using a product that can help me in both those areas. (I am 36)

If you decide to try it, make sure to go very slowly, and follow the recs in the "further help for dry resistant skin" chapter about starting retinoids. I am actually a DSNW bordering on R and O at times, and found that her method was great. I had minimal peeling and irritation and can now tolerate retiniod use every day.

Good, luck, hopefully you will get more suggestions from other posters.

Jerseygirl -
Using the prescription cream at night, do you use anything with it - a moisturizer before or after? Do you also use an eye cream? My dermatologist said it was ok to use renova on my eyelid so I've been doing that and don't want to bombard that area with too many irritating products.

Someone recommended waiting 20 minutes after washing my face at night to apply the renova but in that time it feels so tight it's almost painful. Just wondering what other people with the same skin type are doing...

thanks

I started off using a moisturizer underneath the Retin-A, and using the Retin-A  every three days. Then every other day after 1 week. I then switched to Retin-A underneath and moisturizer on top for another two weeks. Then I went to every night use. Now I can actually use it without a moisturizer, but it is more humid ( I live in FL) now, and in the summer I border a bit on the O side.

If you're skin is that tight without putting anything on it for 20 mins, you definitely want to use moisturizer underneath first, to get your skin used to it gradually.  It kind of dilutes the Retin-A, but you still get benefits with it.  That way you can work it in gradually.

Also, you mentioned you are using a retinol product at night. I'm assuming you're not having any irriation with it? If so, it might be too soon to move up to Tazorac.  If you're not having any irritation, go for it. I found this way of building up to it very effective, with no irritation.

I didn't use any special eye cream, just the regular moisturizer that I was using on my face. At the time that was Atopalm or Cetaphil Lotion. Now I am trying out the Aveeno Ultra Calming cream. Good so far. (I think Atopalm may have broken me out)

I apply the Retin-A under my eyes, just a tiny bit, especially where I have lines. But I don't use it on my lids.

HTH,

can someone tell me more about this retin-a? i believe i have the same problem it drives me nuts! its frustrating to think how can i be breaking out in some areas of my face when other areas cant get enough oils because obviously i have DRY skin! anyways is this a prescription, is this a cream or gel, what brands does this come in and where do you get it, how does it work? id really appreciate the info. one last question- even though we re all drnw does anyone have a tzone problem like me. im so confused because i fall into the drnw category but sometimes i feel like i have two faces. my tzone which breaks out with pimples then mostly the rest of my face which is dry. is this possible or normal? am i still a dry skin? maybe i just need more exfoliation because i already know i cant treat my face for oily because then i dry out all the good oil i do have and end up with pimples and flakes- my skin goes into overdrive trying to produce more oil!
