Hello,

I have a question about using multiple products (from different lines of skin care) at the same time.  I once read that for best results, products should not be mixed.
To be honest I have been faithfully trying the regimen for my skin type according to the book and I am happy with what I see!  I guess I probably shouldn't worrry about it then, huh?!

Speaking of the correct regimen, I have the Retin-A Micro and have been easing into it's use, but does that mean I no longer will need the Active C serum?  And why wouldn't I want to use an exfoliator to help with the peeling process?

Well, it's nice to be here and I'm looking forward to learning more!

Susie - I think that theory of using just one line is hype and marketing technique! I don't think you can expect one line to deliver consistently topnotch products for you or anyone, for that matter. I'd much rather pick the best from many lines. What's important is that you don't pair up INGREDIENTS that either conflict or cancel each other.

As for your other questions, I'm not sure, as I'm not in your same category. I think you can use Vitamin C in the a.m. if it doesn't make your skin senstive, though.

Welcome! This is such a helpful board.

Susie: I use products from multiple lines and found that I love them all for a specific reason. I use my vitamin C eye cream in the am, along with serums that also contain vitamin C, E, Ferulic & AHA's and my Renova at night. Works well, but I'm a DRPW so I could probably put a grenade to my skin and it would come out all happy. lol

Thanks for your replies!

I think the advice about using multiple products was to help avoid negative reactions to ingredients mixing, but with the guesswork taken care of with this research and wonderful book, I've had great results.  The only disaster was when I told myself I was oily instead of dry!  Yikes!  What a week that was!   Oops!  So, for me, best results came after taking the D vs. O questionnaire twice.

It is actually better to use the best products from each brand rather than to use all of the same brand. (The compnaies of course want you to buy their entire line!) However, one compnay will have great sunscreen technology (like LOreal) while another will have great cleanser technology (like Dove) so thats why it is betetr to mix them.

You should still use the active c- it helps prevent pigment and will work with the retin a to prevent wrinkles. You can add an exfoliant if you dont get red from it. DRs are lucky becasue they can tolerate things like using vitamin C, retinoids and exfoliators together while other types cannot.
