Hello Everyone, Not sure if Dr. B will be checking this forum but here goes! First of all thanks for writing this book. It is great. I learned so much. I recommend that everyone read the whole book not just the section for your skin type. I defintely have dry skin. I have always had eczema, itchy scalp and flaky areas around my eyebrows , hariline and my ears. (I was even diagnosed with a fungal skin infection on my face for which I was prescribed Nizoral a few years ago) I have freckles and I tan too easily, but I am quite lightskinned otherwise with light eyes and dirty blonde hair. I do not have any dark spots yet other than small freckles but I assume that I will get them. I am 33 years old and no wrinkles yet and my family tends to age really well. So I bought the products for DSPT and have been following the regimen for a few days and I really like it. NO stinging and the flakiness and dryness is gone. My concern is that I have always had lots of blackheads and pimples. Even though I have very dry skin I have had acne all my life. So I am concerned that I am not treating my acne with your recommendations and I find that my pores are getting clogged. I always exfoliated gently (with baking soda) to try and clear up the flaky skin and blackheads. Is it Ok to use a spot treatment product on pimples (which one?) and what should I do about blackheads that will be gentle enough for my sensitive skin and not dry out my skin? Should I stick to the DSPT guidelines for 8 weeks to see what happens? I am pleased to get in on the ground floor of this forum . I am sure it will get really busy!!!! Thanks. Lois

Hi  Lois,

I too am interested to see if there are any responses on this. I'm a DSNW but occasionally am DSPW due to some recurring melasma. I tend to be dry also, yet clog up pretty easily too no matter what I use.  I recently started on a retinoid but am using her recommended method of building up tolerance to it, as Dry/Sensitive types have to go very slow with it. and so far so good. I am hoping the retinoid will help somewhat with the clogging, so we'lll see.

Also, I know for DSNWs, she recommends using a sulfur based mask a few times a week. I haven't tried this, but I"m wondering if it might help with the clogging.  Also, I have heard many people actually get rid of the clogs using cleansing oils, since for some the oil tends to dissolve the oil and thus the clogs. I recently started using DHC deep cleansing oil at night, so we'll so how it works out. It seems most people either love or hate cleansing oils, hopefully I will like them.

Anyway, let me know if you find something that helps with this. All the over the counter stuff that is supposed to help unclog (AHAs, BHAs etc) tend to dry me out and irritate me more, worsening the clogs.

Lois- great question. the 2 ingredients that would clear your pores, retinoids such as retinol and salicylic acid, may irritate your sensitve skin. So- try applying a product with thse ingredients to those areas only. There are lists of products with retinol in the book- you can apply those (such as the Philosopy Help Me or the Neutrogena Healthy Skin) just to the blackhead and pimple prone areas. Several compnaies such as Clinique make an "on the spot" treatment with salicylic acid which is also good. I would love to hear from those in this skin type forum if they have the same probelm and if so- what is theri solution. I am sure you are not alone and I like to hear from others and their experience.

Hi Just thought I would add a bit too. I am a DSNT with blackheads in the T Zone and with slightly combination skin. I found that by using the regiment my black heads have reduced, especially when I changed the moisturiser to Jurlique face cream (love it!). My face gets better and better daily. But I still have the oily shine from the tinted moisturiser - need to change that!
I have found you really need to fine tune the products to your skin. I thought I'd use a combination moisturiser from OSNT but it made my skin burn! The Jurlique stuff balances me out.
I might try those two products to see if they can further clear up those blackheads!
I love this book! Thankyou Dr Baumann!!!
