My dear husband is a DSNW with rosacea (redness with red, raised bumps). He has flakiness on his cheeks and his forehead does get shiny at times. We thought he had oily skin prior to taking typing him. Poor thing.

I've gotten him started with the regiment below and he has been using it for about two weeks with little improvement. He did say he was less flakey, but his face is still very red and bumpy. My biggest concern is the Metrocream. Should he have seen improvement when he started using that?

Mornings
Eucerin Redness Relief Soothing Cleanser
Metrocream (from his doctor who says he doesn't need to see a dermatologist - using it for 8-10 weeks with no improvement. Lets it soak in for 10 minutes after reading The Book.)
La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water (which he thinks is crazy)
Aveeno Ultra Calming Daily Moisturizer
L'Occitane Shea Ultra Moisturizing Care (which I love and have been using as a DSPW)

Evenings
Eucerin Redness Relief Soothing Cleanser
Metrocream
La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water
Eucerin Redness Relief Soothing Night Cream (I bought the ATOPALM MLE Face Cream, but he won't use it.)

He's been a real trooper. He doesn't like all the cream and complained that he doesn't think his skin can breath. Do we just need to give it more time?

thanks!

I'm a DSNW with rosacea (borderline d/o depending) and I would say give it another week before deciding it's not working. It took three weeks before I started seeing decided improvement.

Metrocream 2x day might be too much for him.  Also, being a guy, he might be using too much product.  Ask him to cut way down on the amt of product (except sunscreen, he needs that) and possibly cut back the metrocream to 1x day.  I'm DSPW with rosacea and have never been able to use Metrocream.  It also comes in a gel and a lotion formula, see if his doc has samples before buying.  That's when it's good to see a derm--they have samples.  There are other rosacea meds too.  For me, just following Dr B's basic skincare regimen with no meds has improved my rosacea, but my case was not severe.  I have read that it takes quite awhile to see improvement from Metrocream.  Also, be sure he is using something gentle as shave cream.
