I'm a borderline DSNW mainly because my sensitive skin is prone to acne rather than redness.  I've been following Dr. Baumann's regimen for moisturizing/acne and the dryness and most of the acne has cleared up.  However, I still break out around my period and I know only tend to get deep cystic acne (one or two each month).  I'd just like to know if anyone else has this problem and what they have done to treat it.  I've heard of the dermatologist injecting cortisone, but I cannot get apointments that easily to go by every month.  So are there any alternatives??

Hi Sarah,

What has worked for me in the past is icing the bump right when I start to feel it. I'll ice it for a few minutes 2-3 times a day and it seems to keep it from surfacing. If I don't catch it early enough, it doesn't help as much.

I'd be interested to hear other responses on this. Also, may I ask what you're using in your routine? Thanks!

Hi, I am new to this site. Just Read Dr. Baumann's book today. I am planning on starting a new care regime tonight.
I too have cystic acne, with 2 to 3 spots all the time. I try not to pop them or they will leave a red-purple scar for weeks. The ice method rarely helps me but just rubbing it gently several times a day (even though it hurts) seems to make it go away from under the skin instead of surfacing and filling with pus. Please anyone with a better way tell me because I am always dealing with these.
I am going to buy the DDF sulfur mask and use it once a week. I will repost with results.
