Hello fellow DSPWs,
I'm new here and so far have been learning alot from these forums and the book. Thanks for sharing so much helpful info!  I actually posted this over in General Skin issues, but meant to post it here.  Still learning my way around this forum!
After reading the book and taking the quiz several times (because I couldn't believe I was a DSPW! Did anyone else find themselves doing this?), I have finally realized that the way I have been caring for my skin  (harsh cleansers and scrubs, drying masks, AHA's etc) has probably actually exacerbated my problems and contributed to my breakouts!  What an eyeopener! Thanks, Dr. Baumann!
I'm certain I will have many questions as I begin this journey of properly caring for my skin, but one that is on my mind right now is this --- what sunscreen do you all use? I have been terrible about using SS for years because they make my eyes and skin itch! Any recommendations?
TIA and looking forward to getting to know you all , and to seeing and FEELING improvement in my skin!!

I'm not the same skin type as you, but I really like Neutrogena sunscreens. Especially the Ultra Sheer Dry Touch version. It doesn't leave that sticky, shiny finish. I think it comes in spf 30 and 45. Great for under makeup, too.

Hi, I'm new, too.  I also found it hard to believe I was DSPW! Had been abusing my skin like a gas station toilet until the book! I have found, now that I am paying *attention* to my skin, that sunscreen is a big problem for me.  The Neutrogena Ultra-Sheer Dry Touch SPF30 worked very well for me this last weekend...lots of sun exposure, lots of perspiration, but no burn - from sun OR from the sunscreen.
I realize now that a lot of my rosacea breakouts that I blamed on heat and sun have been from the stupid wrong sunscreens I was using.
And be aware - just because it says "hypoallergenic" or "sensitive skin" on the label - it ain't necessarily so.   Many of them contain the "ingredients to avoid."
I found out the nasty, bumpy, itchy, blotchy, painful way!

Ugh, the search for a good, non irritating sunscreen. The ones I like are Aveeno Faces 30 (it has soy in it, and Dr. Baumann said that Aveeno does remove the estrogenic components of it, so it's okay for pigmented types), and La Roche Posay Dermo Peds Lait. It has the Mexoryl XL in it, the superior UVA blocker, and I got it because the cream version of Anthelios XL has isopropyl palmitate in it, and I was concerned about it since I am acne prone.

I bought the Anthelios from tubotica.com. It's not available in the US. I find it moisturizing, and so far has not broken me out. Surprisingly it has not stung my face either, which many other sunscreens do, due to the avobenzone. This one has avobenzone in it too, along with the mexoryl, but doesn't sting me at all. Nor does the Aveeno which has the avobenzone too.

Another one which was recommended for DSNW (my type, though I border on all the categories) was the Citrix Topix Antioxidant sunscreen. I used it a few times and liked it, I just like the others better. I live in FL, so I splurged on the La Roche Posay Anthelios for the better protection, since I'm outside a lot too.

HTH a bit!

Thanks so much for all these great recommendations! I'll be looking forward to checking out these products. I have been learning so much, since reading ( and re-reading, and re-reading...!) the book and checking out these forums. I think that in my younger days I probably tended more toward OSPW skin type (even now I am borderline O/D) and because of the problems I was having with breakouts, thought that I had to "discipline" my skin with harsh scrubs, toners, masks, baking myself in the sun, etc.  Was I wrong! I am now having to deal with lots of pigmentation issues and my skin is SO sensitive! A much gentler approach is definitely making my skin feel better and I have to say, it's starting to look better, too. I appreciate this forum as a great place to exchange info and encourage each other! Thanks so much for responding to my questions, everyone!
